Default C7 Installing Auto-dimming Rearview Mirror

All,
It's frustrating that one can spend $80K plus on a Z06 and still get a 1LZ package. Stuff like the buttons on the sun visor, navigation, and autodimming rear view mirrors should be standard at that price point; right? Well I did change out the sun visor to get the buttons. I did get a replacement mirror and changed it out and am working on the PDR with navigation. I had read all the posts on the mirrors I could find but none were quite all the way there to show me what I needed to do. So I thought I would posts some install pics to help clear the subject up and help others. I took a lot of photos of the old mirror to show the similarity between the new and old mirrors. Also note that you do not need to be 90˚ off to insert the mirror frame into the receptacle on the car. It's more like 45˚. Just make sure its nice and flush before you twist. I used a drift punch pushed through the holes that secure the plastic front cover onto the frame. be careful not to use something so long that you could contact the windshield and scratch it.

Oh, and I ordered my mirror through Cultrag parts.

This is what you need to order...

Its a lot easier with a little leverage and I used a drift punch.

Ignore the selfie

Happy to see the OnStar buttons work

I was wondering about the process and come across this thread. Thank you for posting! I’m interested be same boat, 1Lz and can’t believe it doesn’t have an auto-dim mirror. I have had enough and will be changing it. Thanks for the write up! We’re than any issues you came across that were problematic?

Yes, I tried to do the forward camera and the performance computer but that turned out to be too difficult as the car needs to be pre-wired with the wiring harness that has those options. I would have thought it would be like the harness is already installed, you just have to buy and plug in the different optional OEM equipment; not so much. So after buying all the components I ended up sending them all back.

I have a 1LT and would like to upgrade to a mirror which has both autodim and homelink - no reason to also do the visor.
On my Santa Cruz I found a Genentech mirror for $30 which does it all - the big question is whether the non-Chevy mirrors have compatible mounts.

I did the opposite and removed my self dimming mirror and replaced it with a 1LZ mirror, the auto-dimming with 5% tint sucks.

Even without tint I found this car was undriveable at night due to auto dimming mirrors being too dark, replaced with 1LT interior mirror and all is good,

chevy cobalt's and chevy trucks in base trim come with lane occupancy in the side view mirrors. vettes never did. with all the blind spots these cars have it should have been standard.
