Default Trunk Latch Not Releasing

Does anyone have experience with a trunk latch that will not release with either the key or the under-dash button? The pull down works when the trunk lid is gently closed, but the release does not work. When I use the key release I can her a "click: inside the latch, but nothing happens. Is there an internal solenoid that has failed? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is on a 2019 Z06, but I think the atch is the same for all C7's.

When you use the word "key" do you mean the remote fob? I presume that the actual physical key is what you use to open the hatch.

I had issues with mine and found the hatch was sticking to the weatherstripping from being shut so long.Released mine with the remote and then closed the door to lift it a little. After putting some dielectric grease on the seal no more issues.Your problem may be different so this is just an idea.

Good question, yes, the key fob will not open the trunk, although I do hear a click within the latch assembly when I hit the key fob button. And as I said earlier, the under dash switch also fails to open the trunk.

No, there is no sticking issue with the weather strip. When I use the mechanical key to open the trunk it pops open.

I have this problem occasionally. If I open the doors or a window is down, it never happens. I am convinced it is something to do with the "soft close" feature on the hatchback.

Happened on my new ZR1 first cold...and was repeatable. Dealership said it happens a lot and installed new hatch struts under warranty. Been good for more than 2 years now...cold weather or hot. For clarification...mine would pop up slightly and pull right back down. YMMV.

Mine does the same with popping and pulling closed immediately sometimes. It only does that if the doors are closed with the windows up.

Mine did it regardless of door/window position...but only when it got down around 50F and below. It's 24F right now and it works just fine...like it has since the struts were replace. Draw your own conclusion.

Thanks for the comments, history and suggestions, unfortunately nothing has worked. Open/closed doors and windows, nothing. My struts are OK and pop open the trunk when I use the key in the lock. I have ordered a new latch assembly, hopefully this will fix the issue.

Mine was doing the same thing until I did a good clean on the mechanical pieces in it (struts/latch)

Unfortunately, the new latch assembly didn't fix the problem. I did determine that the "click" that I hear, when using the key fob, was coming from the electrical box directly below the latch assembly. If I disconnect this box the soft close pull down no longer works. Looks like time for a trip to my local dealer.

The dealer fixed the problem, I had not fully connected a front wiring harness fitting. Live and learn!

Well there is another fix for this problem.....

Had to replace thr battery and long story short... truck won't latch with the motor... tried everything, checked fuses (since motor wouldn't grab and pull down), wiggled key back and forth in trunk latch and then forcefully both ways....

Finally took the panel of the inside and looked while turning key... nothing, but noticed the small black box that houses the cable that releases the trunk latch... popped it open climbed in the trunk had someone close the trunk and move the key... saw it wasn't moving, I literally mixed it by hand 1/8" and bzzzz the motor latched.....

Hope this helps someone else.
