Based on the recent press release from California, they actually can read and tell if the calibration in the ECM is the stock calibration or has been modified. This is part of their new CARB Smog process. So not only will readiness monitors cause a fail, if you have tuned the ECM I am guessing that would cause a fail based on the wording of their press release.
Interesting. Haven't run into this in any other state. The legalities of the state having access to read proprietary ECU data from a manufacturer seem to be a huge road block. But California is known to have massive government overreach. Sucks for California residents that want to go faster if this is true.

It sure is and it is true time to move out of Kalifornia
If you want it to hit really hard you can buy the Level 4 transmission kit from Circle D it has a plate in it & drill bit that you drill out & it will hit hard ever time it shifts. Bad thing is it cost 3500.00 just for the kit with all the good parts that comes with it. No that is not labor with them putting the kit into the trans.
I did the kit but didnt do the drilling just put the kit in the car & did turn up the line pressure to make it shift a little harder. Robert

There is far more to making the A8 shift harder than just a shift kit, this isnt the days of a TH350/400/700R4/4L60. The TCM controls everything in the A8, abuse mode, torque management and timing are all used to control how hard the transmission shifts

I know that buddy I said this level 4 full trans kit from them cost 3500.00 you get a much better parts with it. But the plate in it does work just like what you are saying but you also have to turn up the pressure & tune it also. ALSO HERE I DID NOT DRILL MINE TO SHIFT HARDER... Robert

Ninja,
Just got my car back from the dealer again. This time if was a blown transmission cooling line failure. It was covered by extended warranty but now my extended warranty will expire on July 24, 2022. I think I am throwing in the towel on getting the dealer to replace my transmission under warranty so, I would like to discuss with you the process for reprogramming my TCM. My buddy has HP Tuner and can back up my file(s) and send them to you for review and programming. He will create a backup for me so we can reload the original file to avoid failing the smog test here in California. Can you tell me what files you need and which licenses my buddy has to buy for my ECM to unlock and overwrite these files? What do you charge for the programming?
Thanks,
Kevin

If your car is stock, you will only need to read(download) the ECU and TCM files with VCM Editor. I can work from there. If your car has been tuned, do the same Read process prior to having anything replaced/fixed. They likely wouldn't replace the TCM when the Transmission is replaced but you never know. As for licensing costs, HPTuners website has the details listed. IIRC off the top of my head 2015-2016 Z06's are 2 credits for the ECU and 2 for the TCM, 2017-2019 is 4 credits for the ECU and I think it was 2 for the TCM, however you will have to have the TCM sent to HPTuners for unlocking.
I had my tranny tuned when it was in the shop for my new engine. It feels great to me, but I like it that way and I told the tuner that. It might be a little aggressive for others. It won't bark the tires like we were used to back in the old turbo 350/400 days. They won't do that anymore. It's trying to protect itself to some degree.
