Have a 2017 and need to replace shifter cable on the a8 transmission. Had the shifter out and when hooking it back up the plastic connector piece snapped. Does anyone have the procedure on how to do this? Any help appreciated
I replaced the shift cable in a friends C6 and it looks like the operation is very similar. Take your time and follow the instructions. The operation works better if you have someone with small hands. It was a PITA because my hands are not small.
On my 2000 C5, it breaks every 10 years. From the provided instructions, I can see why a dealer charges over $300 to replace the cable. Only time in 35 years that I've ever had to use AAA since the car is truly dead in the water. Luckily the AAA pickup service knew enough to manually put the car in neutral before flat bedding it to the dealer for service.
Done a replacement on a C7 yesterday.
Thought it would be much harder.
Unbolted aluminum driveshaft cover, removed middle exhaust section and a heat shield of the torque tube. Than half of hour of suffering with bracket, clip and pushing through very tight spaces and voila - transmission cable successfully replaced.
