I love this car!! Bought it 12 months ago, parked in garage, under cover with a battery charger connected to the trunk outlet.
simple enough,
Every two months I take it out for a spin to keep the juice flowing... Upon returnI re- connected it to the trunk charger outlet.
Tonight tried to start it, TOO WEAK, clicked, engine barely turns over!!! Damn charger light's been on, used to charge well, - WTH?
I have a battery booster I can hook up, should I do this to the trunk plug option or directly to the battery posts?
Best advice? and Why does the trickle charge NOT work now? Current fine in garage wall receptacle.
How best to jump start with my SMARTECH Booster.
Thanks. Q
so when the tender was one it showed green light?
did you check the voltage on the battery?
yeah id say even though it was working fine and was being tendered when not in use it may have went, its possibly it was just its time.
you could always pull it out, charge it with a regular charger and then take to auto parts store to have them test it.
Check the voltage at the output of the maintainer when it is connected and indicating full charge. Should be ~ 13.1 to 13.4 volts depending on brand of charger.
I suspect the battery is toast. No fault of the charger, which I suspect is still good. Batteries seem to last around 5 years, even if you do everything right. Some may get another year, but that's down to luck. A battery can fail but still show 12.6-12.8V static. BUT may not be able to deliver enough current to do anything meaningful, vs. a cell going bad or plates shorting out that kill both voltage and amps. Since the chargers monitor voltage they usually can't detect the degraded ability of the batt to deliver amps. Again, nothing wrong here, just one of several ways a battery dies a natural death.
Had a maintainer fail once. All indicator lights showed correct but no output to battery except a very low AC ripple. Charger was only 2 years old.
They do fail as in all electronics.
Easy fix, bad capacitor, replaced and worked as normal.
