right side running lights not working... sometimes
Hello All! I recently did a zr1 wing mod on my c7 zo6. During the mod... i broke the main harness plug clip... the one you need to separate before removing the rear bumper. I proceeded with the mod and used a zip tie to hold the two plugs in place until I replaced the harness. about six months later... I finally got around to replacing the harness... (gm part) which seemed pretty straight forward. the only thing i had problems with was the side markers. the clip used on the plug was very tight and didn't want to snap in place. i finally got it but it just seemed odd how tuff it was to seat. anyway... i was driving home one night from work and someone told me my right side taillight was out. I went home... left the car running and sure enough... the running lights on the right side was out... the rear taillight... both side marker... and front headlight running light were all out. The main headlight was on... and when i stepped on the brakes.. the brake light came on... blinker worked too. But here's the thing... it does not happen all the time. I can start the car at night... all lights are on. Drive it awhile... and the right side running lights go out about half the time. Any ideas? I guess the first thing i need to do... is to reseat all the harness plugs inside the rear bumper. But at this point... im so sick and tired of taking that bumper off. any advise would be greatly appreciated...
Yes... I should have mention that in my post. The side marker lights are oracle led and the rear taillights are the morimoto aventador sytle leds. But the problem did not exist until i swapped out the rear bumper harness. If there was a problem... i was not aware of it...
Here is a photo of whats going on. I had my wife follow me while i was driving. I turned on the main lights and she said all lights did come on... then blinked twice... and then the right side goes out. The brake light works... the blinker works... just not the running light.
So, if it were me - and if you still have them, I would put the stock side lights/markers back on since that is the quickest and simplest. I would see if that remedied the issue. It doesn’t cost anything but your time.
If that doesn’t fix it, I would put the Oracles back on and swap out the tail lights. But since taking off the rear clip is such a PITA, I would be well prepared to troubleshoot the harness once you get back there.
Just saying what I would do since nobody else is chiming in.
Yeah, I am running into the same thing with aftermarket tail lights (auto-revitalization). Right side blinks twice after car is on then goes out. I’ve unplugged the right rear marker light to lower amp draw and still see the same thing.
curious if anyone else knows of a fix. I’m pulling the bumper tonight and seeing if anything obvious exists that would cause this.
It seems you've messed up a connection that intermittently loses contact. You are going to need to trace where this is occurring and repair the circuit at that point... no other way around it. All the best.
Resurrecting this again. I reverted all my side running lights back to stock, separated and re-made connections and traced the wiring looms for headlight/taillight/side-markers hand over hand to ensure they weren't rubbing or grounded on anything ... started the car up and it does the same thing. All running lights come on, entire right side (front headlight running light, amber front side light, red rear side light, taillight running light) blinks twice, then goes out.
When I get out of the car and lock/unlock ... the lights that were previously out come on. I start the car, and the blinking happens again and they go off. I would hate to drive the car off the cliff due to this ..... .... because it is supremely frustrating troubleshooting something with no fuses as the circuits are built into the control module in the car.
Does anyone have experience with a module failing this way due to repeated high current draw (even if present current is not high)?

Reason: additional info
For all those that come to this thread looking for help, this item is what eventually cured my issues. The problem was too many LED lights and the BCM cut power due to amp rise (voltage sag causes amperage to go up for the same power output). For my car (and the most issues I read about are the same) it was my passenger side that all running lights would go out on.
It is a harness with a built-in capacitor to keep voltage normal. Luckily I got mine for free, but after all my woes, I wouldn't mind paying this amount to solve the problem. Hell, the car sat for 4 months because it irked me so much that I couldn't solve the problem!
Description: C7 corvettes (2014 - 2019) are notorious for issues when LED lights are used in the running lights, or when aftermarket tail lights are put in. The most common failure is the passenger side of the car, the lights flash twice on startup ... then go dark for running light mode (they are typically still available for brake and turning lights). Stop chasing your tail and put one of these harnesses in your car as this solution cures the issue. This harness has high quality capacitors put in series with the tail light on each side. This prevents voltage sag on the BCM circuit they are installed on. When voltage sags, this causes amperage to go up (amp draw is what trips the BCM into cutting power). Holding voltage at normal levels prevent issues from happening, and that is precisely what this does. For installation, this harness plugs in-between the car harness and your tail light plug on the side that lighting doesn't work. If both sides don't work, put one on each side. Several manufacturers of the tail lights and LED side markers that cause this issue: Oracle (side marker), Morimoto, and Auto-revitalization (paragon performance) are the majority of the manufacturers of these aftermarket lights.
Why pay $45? Just contact Morimoto and they will send you one for free + shipping.
Hey, Vinnie. I sent you 3 sets (6 harnesses) of harnesses for free + shipping. If you still have the other four, why not pass it on?
