Default Help me understand oil pump alignment

I'm doing a cam swap at home and removed the oil pump without installing the alignment tools. I didn't know such a thing even existed. I've been through the thread by Fryeant and a few others including aligning an ls oil pump with feeler gauges. I've watched someone explain how the inside of the lt1 pump works and I just don't understand how the 1-2mm of movement is going to cause loss of oil pressure or why its so crucial. The GM manual says you MUST use the alignment tools if reusing the same pump (I discovered this after the fact). I've been scouring the internet and some people are saying the alignment tools are BS and you can just mount the pump with the bolts finger tight, then turn the engine over by hand to align the pump. I just want to understand.

I’d be very curious if someone had the actual answer because I’ve had several off, have the proper tool, and stopped using it because there isn’t any adjustment.
