Came out of the office to a dead battery. Wife came and jump started me and I got a mile before the car gave up again. Guessing it may be the alternator but after throwing anew battery in it the car ran fine.
My rant is this, the battery in the GS is the biggest pain in the *** to replace out of any car I have ever owned. Lots of things to disconnect, multiple nut sizes, matric and SAE... WTF GM???
yeah isnt fun at all! but i get the location since it puts the weight in the right place overall.
umm yeah i remember 10 and 13mm various lengths and extensions...
i had screwdrivers, rag, trim tool, etc.. ready to go as well. my main goal was not to break or rip anything, which i did not. especially careful with the small black wire on the negative side.
not a normal thing to change so im good with it overall.

I missed that damnned little black wire on the neg. Broke it. Lucky it was at the end so easy to fix.
I just replaced my original factory battery last week. Although I agree it's more complicated than it should be, it would have been nice if GM would have engineered a larger cubby opening, similar to the one on the driver's side to at least make accessing the battery easier than pulling the carpet away from and underneath the sharp plastic trim. That and perhaps adding an easy, GM plastic pull-up handle to help lift the brick of a battery out of the car.

It is a bit tedious, but I watched an excellent youtube video that took any uncertainties out of it. Having a lifting strap helps greatly. (Some batteries have a built-in lifting strap; otherwise buy one that attaches to the battery terminals.)
Sorry to hear about about your plight, but it's hardly the only thing like that on the car. Ever wonder what the designers get paid to do this to us?
If you want me to put more things in the same place, it is going to get more crowded. Simple reality. Increase the size of the car, decrease the size of the items. Not sure what else can be done.
