Default Oil change issue ( again )

I took my dry sump 2017 C7 GS to the local dealer and had an oil change recently. I drove the car home (only a few miles) and parked it. The car ran fine, and the oil pressure looked OK on the short drive home.

I had a brand new oil service tech this time. This made me a little nervous.

When you guys get an oil change, do you make the dealer warm up the car, turn it off, follow the regular oil check procedure, and then show you the oil level on the dipstick before the car leaves the garage?; or do you just drive it home and don't worry about it?

I tell them to put 9 quarts in the engine and place the tenth quart in a plastic bag and put it in the car. It can take 20+ minutes to get an idling engine up to temperature after the oil is changed when the engine is cold so I don't make them run the engine to check the oil level. I check it when I get home after the OIL TEMPERATURE is over 175 degrees. Then I use the 10th quart to top off the oil level at the top dot on the dip stick.

I put in 9.8 and don’t bother doing anything else.

Same here. After doing enough of these oil changes it's perfect with 9.75 quarts every time. 1/8" from top cross hatch line. If I had a dealer do it I'd probably have them let me do the last quart.

I DIY and add nine quarts, which on my car (2017 GS) shows ~1/4 into the hash marks. My car uses no discernible oil between changes so I see no reason to add more. I always get OT up to 175°, then wait seven minutes on a level surface to check.

You know asking such here many are simply going to say they refuse to rely on dealer or other minimum wage off-the-streets, and do it themselves. I've done so on all my vehicles of value all my life. I always recommend others do the same, minimizing risks. NEVER too late!

Btw, I've worked in dealerships and most are going to do whatever is expedient at any given moment, irrespective of what owners want.

I would guess most would just leave, some may recheck later on.
I would certainly take a quick peak myself before leaving if I had to have someone do my oil.
