Default cammed = NYS Inspection?

Im looking in to buying a C7 Z06 and would like to do a cam package on it. Is it possible to get this to pass NYS Inspection? I know the EPA has cracked down on tuners this past year. Now that the state requires you plug in the car to pass, buying a sticker doesnt work anymore. Anyone been successful doing this in the last year or two?

Surely, there must be some car clubs in your area you can contact for recent info, if no one responds here for a while. Good luck.

The cam probably won’t cause a problem but the required custom tune probably will. The NY machine checks for tune modifications. I think it’s using a checksum method but I am not sure on that. All NY shops are getting new machines later this year. Anyone who got away with it before probably will not when that happens. You will have to decide if that potential aggravation is worth it to you.

Depending on the cam, an educated and responsible tuner should be able to make it pass assuming it still has cats, etc.

Im hoping that will be the case, but with my last mustang I was in the same situation as my tuner (Lund) would not send me a tune to pass. I think they use to do that but not anymore.

These states that start this **** should at least have some kind of circumstances like only if the vehicle is driven more than 5k a year or something. This is a total joke. A lot worse things going on in this country than modded vehicles. What about all the diesels and semis blowing **** in the air?!?!

I am glad they are cracking down. I am sick and tired of cammed cars with poor tunes blowing rich smelling exhaust fumes at me. There are some that are so bad I wonder if I lit a match the air would explode.

I always respect what your thoughts are and am thankful for your amount of knowledge. You have helped me much over the years. but……I can’t remember the last time a cammed car with a poor tune put off waaaay much fumes. But anyway why should the rest of us hobbyist have to take the hit from all these new rules. I feel it’s just not right and this country has many more bigger issues than smelly exhaust.

It's not the cams that are causing your issue, it's the lack of cats.

Um, cats are good but they can't clean up those dripping wet tunes.

Bill I'm with you in the radical tuned cars spewing stuff but for me the worst offenders are the jacked up diesel trucks that fill my face with black soot when they accelerate. Running a diesel with the timing that far advanced doesn't even make more power it just makes soot.

Before 1975 we didn't have cats and cars were tuned so they didn't smell like a hazardous waste site. It is the tune and not the lack of cats.
