Default Oil Temp Overheat warning!

I was doing Parade laps at Lime Rock Park Northeast Granp Prix and my '16 Z51 gave oil overheat warning and then coolant temps went up !
It was 89 degrees and problem started on third and final lap. I KNOW you are supposed to use 15w-50 for track use but it was only 3 laps though we did hit over 100 mph.
Car cooled down immediately as I was pulling off track and after about 5 minutes I shutdown and fan ran for a good 10 minutes.

Comments please ?

First thing I did to My 16 Z51 A8 after pace laps at Watkins Glen was a Dewitts radiator, GM radiator was just too small, after a couple more years I went to Their 70 MM racing radiator.
Stock just wouldn't cut it

So your radiator controls your oil temp? Mine only controls the coolant ?

Went out again this morning .
78 degrees and I kept the rpms from banging off the limiter.
Oil & coolant never got above 212F !

im thinking this was a fluke on the oil temp sensor. Parade laps should never heat up a c7

No but mine did also with the stock radiator
works fine on the street but quickly goes up even with mild track use

My bad....was thinking transmission temp. Still shouldn't overheat for parade laps.

I think the OP said it was high oil temperature not trans temperature.

Here’s why I think it’s a fluke. As far I know the oil sensor stops reading at 302 degrees which I and some others have hit with no warnings. It takes a while for oil temps to creep up. Coolant temp usually hits first. 3 parade laps is nothing for a z51 what’s your oil level ? I m thinking the sensor messed up momentarily

The AUX radiator that came standard with 2017+ Z51/GS remedies cooling issues for Z51s. Also, if you used 15W-50, since it's thicker oil, your temps would only go up further, not down.

I personally prefer OEM radiators, and we're lucky to have the 51mm OEM radiator (that comes standard with 2018+ A8 Z06s) as an option, for only $300 shipped. In my experience, it performs just as good as DeWitts' 70mm radiator. DeWitts' design induces much more turbulence (intentionally to increase heat exchange), which I think drops the air flow at high speeds enough to nullify the benefit at track use. I've tried them all, and OEM upgraded one works about just as good at 1/4 price. Your mileage may vary, of course.
