Default Question About VVT Delete

I am currently finishing up final decisions on my build and have a question about deleting the VVT. I am running a stage 1 Cam Motion cam, Whipple 2.9, Crawford Racing 3 pump port injection and supporting mods. My question is if the drivability will be impacted if I delete the VVT. I know it helps with the low end torque and power band but I would like to know what else would be impacted. Would going with 4 degree lock out be better than full lockout. What have some of you done and experienced?

Regards

I would use the lockout that is suggested for that cam grind. In regards to how the car drives I don’t believe that should have an impact. The cam specs along with the tuner will have a much larger impact on that.

even with a lockout piece (which is plastic and may deform over time) you can see 1-2* of timing change. the easiest way is to use a katech vvt delete which is a timing sprocket, bolt and billet cover. the completely deletes the vvt and allows for precise cam degreeing during the install. its no were near as cheap as a lockout but in the end its better and since your dumping big money in the motor another 600$ wont make much difference
you also need to look into the full dod delete dod valley pan and afm delete. basically your turning the lt1/4 into a modern version of the ls motor and doing away with the parts that tend to fail. checking the hpfp for proper lift is also crucial when swapping cams to a bigger fuel lobe. dod delete will involve new lifters, trays, pushrods, springs( double beehive work well) . unlike the ls motors a cam swap in a lt motor is much more involved than a simple cam out/in.

You are putting a PD blower on your car, why do you need the VVT for low end torque?

The VVT creates more torque down low at WOT. But where normal drivability is, the VVT increases fuel economy as it is retarded way past the point of helping torque. If you take a stock cam car and remove or severely limit the cam movement at part throttle, the car feels much more responsive. Then go back to the stock VVT movement and you will feel like the car is sluggish again.

So basically, no, don't worry about VVT with a cam. The car will feel better everywhere.
