Before you add a ported TB only, get soler throttle controller.
I put a ported throttle body and intake manifold on my stock Z51 and could tell no difference in perceived power. But, the throttle response at tip in improved noticeably. I then added the throttle controller and it helped even more.
So I'm in agreement that on a stock LT1 a ported TB adds no power but improves driveability. A throttle controller does the same and is adjustable without swapping in parts.
yep , you can change throttle response in the tune , the good thing about a controller is you can adjust it to your liking....

Why can't you change it in the tune to the way you like before you finalize that tune with the tuner? Not sure I follow. Just curious since I am going to tune out the AFM anyways.
I’ve had throttle controllers on two different manual transmission cars and while I didn’t adjust them often I did, from time to time, adjust the settings on the fly. For me, I wouldn’t want to lock in any particular setting via a one time ECM reprogramming. Spice it up on the twistiest and dial it down in rush hour traffic, but that’s just my preference.
As an aside, obviously the throttle controller adjusts response not power but the LT1 has a lot of low speed power that is moderated by the factory throttle map. As long as you don’t do something stupid maxing out the controller makes 1st gear throttle response a bit of a hoot. Just pick an appropriately safe environment and use prudence until you are use to it. You have been warned.

But how far can you go till something gives? For example, if you go enough to overcome what the ECM can compensate for, will you end up spinning tires to the point where your day to day driving is nothing short of having to drive like you have an egg between your right foot and the pedal? How much more would you think you have to tell the tuner to change the map?

The tuner is going to have to take what you say and decide what to give you and hopefully you two are on the same wavelength. With a controller you have a very wide range (typically -3 to +9) of adjustment at your fingertips, you don’t even have to stop or turn off the car., just spin the ****. It’s very intuitive. On ice or snow? Soften it up by turning down to -3. Ready to rock and roll? Try +7,+8 or +9. Want something sharper than stock but not nuts, Try +3. Having it flashed into the ECU memory is like having someone else permanently set the volume on your infotainment system, with a controller you decide on the spot what works best for the current conditions.
No... a ported throttle body does not increase hp... it helps to improve/gain a little quicker throttle response... that's it... you will not gain any power/hp... it's just for quicker/better throttle response...

It can be done this way yes. Additionally, you can set three different throttle maps for Tour, Sport and Track. I refused to tune any client cars with a throttle controller. Some guys really like them, but when you're modified and start getting into the tune they are nothing but a headache and a problem that needs to be eliminated. They have their place though if you aren't interested in tuning the car.

What company are you working for? What does it run to take out the AFM and get a better throttle map?

I work for my own company. I'm not a paying sponsor on here so I don't solicit business or use my company name per the forum rules. I tune for a shop out of Texas as well.
