Car won't start, doors won't, dash won't illuminate
I went out of town for much longer than I expected to and did not plug in my maintenance charger. My car sat for two months with no activity.
Went out to start my 16 Z06 and couldn't get the door to open. Went in to the hatch and pulled the door release. No start. All I hear is clicking from the door release area.
Plugged the charger in for a day with no luck. I then tried another charger with connectors on the terminals. No luck. Pulled the battery out and charged it out of the car for a day. The battery is showing almost 12.4 volts. The courtesy lights illuminate and bells chime but the door will not open from the inside or outside using the releases. Car will not turn on, no dash lights, no start. Even the glove box won't open.
Tried to jump start it but no luck again..
I took the battery in to be tested. It's testing in the high 700 for cranking amps.
Any ideas what to do next?
I won't fail to keep the charger plugged in next time.
I think I should have posted this in Tech but maybe someone can help.
Thanks Elmer. Problem resolved. I just corrected my post in the Tech forum.
Charged battery until I got almost 12.45 volts. Reconnected everything back up and she cranked.
What really had me puzzled, was why wouldn't it jump start? Maybe I failed to have something tightened properly.
Anyway, all is good here.
By the way, the maintenance charger is plugged in. It will be a while for I can take her out.

Check the 350amp fuse on the positive side of the battery.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did that by putting an OHM meter across it. I got 2. All terminals appeared to be tight. Everything clean.
The second fuse would be for the starter?
would there be an obvious sign like burnt indications. Sorry if this seems elementary.
PROBLEM RESOLVED!
Not sure if this made a difference but I put the charger back on till I got 12.45 volts across the terminals.
Hooked everything back up. No courtesy lights or bells until I clicked the fob.
I could tell it was acting normal as I was not getting the repetitive clicking.
I double checked all the connectors. My dash was illuminated. Hit the start button. She made music again. Very happy sounds now I'm happy.

A FULLY charged battery is 12.66 volts…if your charger can’t get up to this number you should get your battery checked…your 12.4 is about 80% charged.

Thank you. I took the battery to the dealer where I purchase it two years ago. It has a four year full replacement guarantee.
I think it was so dead it just took a while to get it charged. At 12.3 volts it showed over 700 (almost 800) cranking amps. It was tested on analog and digital testers.
I have it on maintenance charge now so hopefully that will top it off.
Need to drive the darn thing but weather is rainy and love bugs are out in the thousands. Floridians know how bad love bugs are.
Next week looking better for a nice drive to the coast.

Yes, raining here too in Cape Coral…if you ever need some diagnostic work look me up…never take your car to a dealership for diagnostic work…they are pretty clueless…brake change good…diagnostics bad !!

When my battery takes a dive like that, I replace the battery.
I make it a policy to hook up my battery maintainer every time I park in the garage.

Funny how one's mind works or doesn't: I woke up at 5:00am remembering that I failed to reconnect the vent for the battery. First thing I did when I got up.

Well, the day is going great for you! You woke up this morning and you've already punched your man card!

For the C7 I would replace as well. This car is so nutty regarding having a strong charged battery that a load test doesnt always pick up.

Well Elmer, I about lost my man card a few minutes ago. Wife says dogs are acting funny and she hears a weird noise outside. Wanted me to check it out.
I walk around my house and she ask me if I hear that noise. I'm getting hard of hearing from working on cars, shooting, and music so I don't.
Look about ten feet away and see Mr. Friendly. It's about 6 feet long with close to ten rattles.
About left an oil stain in my pants. I let him go since they are getting endangered in my area.
Off topic for sure but funny.
