For the past month or so when slowing down to a stop sign it feels like the car hard shifts into the lower gears (3rd, 2nd to 1st) and isn't smooth. Maybe it's trying to shift too soon into the lower gears.
I don't know if I need to get the TCM reset or just disconnecting the battery would help. It does have a tune (engine and trans) but it's never driven like this before. Why would this all of a sudden change shifting?
The tuner mentioned that the trans will "learn" the way I drive and adapts. I will sometimes paddle shift to slow down, but this is happening all the time now. Will it un-learn this if that's what happened?
It's just strange that it was perfect shifting, but then got worse and worse.
I don't have an HP Tuner so I guess I'll have to drive it to him to do a relearn.
So, I'm guessing that taking the battery off for a period of time wouldn't reset the TCM? I haven't tried that yet.
My tuner did a re-learn for me and within 5 mins of driving, it was all back to normal. I didn't realize that it would learn my habits over time. Apparently I was paddle downshifting too often and it learned that "oh, you want to drive that way? I'll help you." I knew that if I drove hard for a few minutes it understood that that's the way I wanted to drive, but I didn't realize that also driving a certain way over a longer period also kept that pattern in memory.
