I use a VCX Nano for GM. You also need to load software on a PC which can be a problem getting working since instructions are weak and partially in Chinese but when installed correctly it makes the PC close to the capability of the GM MDI tool the dealers use. You can look it up on Amazon.
I have a great diagnostic tool made by Autel. This device not only reads codes, but can test the systems far deeper than a basic scan tool plus it has bi-directional mode that can test things like window motors, door locks, etc. It can even calibrate the AC vent solenoids. I mainly bought it for its ability to clear the trans control module “adaptives”’and do a fast learn.
It’s too bad I’m in NE Florida because I’d drink a beer or two with you.🤓🍻
I’m in Cape Coral on the Gulf…if you want to take a trip over this way I have 5 scan tools…LOL !!…the Autel MK808 is a good buy right now …think they just updated the software to make it bidirectional…for a six pack I’ll scan and diagnose it for you !!
…what’s the concern with your car ??…you can’t just read a code and replace a part…a lot MORE involved than that !!…that is what 99.99 % of dealerships and general repair shops do !!…I also use a labscope which 99.99% of dealerships and repair shops don’t use either…essential these days to diagnose a car.

I am getting an information pop up stating that the ‘Rear Axel System’ is off. It’s not throwing a check engine light, no codes on my simple Bluetooth scanner. Bill above was nice enough to dig thru the tech sheets and find that the message is likely due to a Brake Pedal Position Sensor. So I changed it only to find out that there is a ‘relearn’ process required, and I’m still getting the information pop up.
So ideally, I’d like to see if there is an associated DTC code, reset it, and know if there is a scanner that I can do the relearn process with.
You will need a bidirectional scan tool such as the Autel MK808 or similar to do this calibration…may be cheaper to take it to a shop to have this cal done but if you need a scan tool this is a nice one that Autel has just updated the software on June 1st to make it bidirectional !!…costs around $400.00.

Thank you, just ordered one! Will be a nice addition to my tool collection.

Always good to have a bidirectional scan tool that can not do only GM but other cars either domestic or import !!…you will see that scan tool has MANY features…just play with all the menu's for a few days !!…a code reader is useless to do diagnostics!!
