What do most c7 owners do for custom tuning? Its an easy way to get more HP and unleash all the torque thats actually there.....I was quoted $850 for a custom tune from very reputable performance shop outside ot Boston and believe it can be even done remotely. Anyone go this route?
Remote is fine too but you'll need hptuners and will want the software. So that will add cost to it.
If you're gonna get the car tuned in my opinion at least add a mod or two. Most people get their cars tuned out of necessity for the mods they do. It'd be more worthwhile if you did flex fuel or at least an intake.
Tunes are gonna cost anywhere from 750-1000+ typically. You'll need the credits from hptuners for them to even tune your car, and additional credits for the transmission too(if it's a 2017+ automatic).
Also if you get a tune make sure the cost includes support and drivability. I've learned first hand that some tuners will only tune the car for more power. Drivability should be focused on and support for adjustments in the tune or issues down the line should be offered as well.
$850 seems extreme to me as well, especially remote. My tuner charges $400 for the first tune then $200 for every tune after that, and he is awesome. Got an additional 20HP on a bone stock C7 recently. But, I am in the midwest.
first off your paying for the tuners knowledge and in some cases thats worth its weight in gold. another reason is my tuner uses a mainline hub dyno so wheels have to be removed and dyno connected to the car. this takes time and time is money. you can get remote tuned but in this case it seems your post is referring to a dyno tune. since the tuner cant be there to see the data as he is tuning most reputable tuners will only do a very conservative remote tune to avoid any issues and you may not get the power results you expect
my last thought is tuning is the last place you want to cheap out on. spend the money there put hydro dipped c/f instead of real c/f elsewhere
To be honest , it was stated if it was in house....so I assume it would be then instead of remote
To clarify, if you are taking your car to a shop and putting it on the dyno to have it tuned, then the pricing is inline with what you should expect. The shop may have an in house tuner or they may out source it to a remote tuner. But in this case you're paying the Tuner, the cost of licenses along with dyno use to the local shop.
If you are working directly with a remote tuner yourself, and not going to a shop, then you would be the one paying for licenses and doing the datalogging. In this scenario that pricing would be a bit steep for a mildly modified car.
