Hello - looking to see if anyone might have a resolution to an issue i am having with getting FOB programing to work. I am getting nowhere in the very start of the process. When I try to get into programming and turn the key five times quickly the car never displays a message "Ready for remote #". I have also tried putting a key in the Steering Column slot and I do not get a "Known Remote" message but it does start with a FOB with no battery in the Steering Column slot. So I know the slot is working. Any ideas?
THere have been instances where the turning of the key is not fully turned for the car to recognize the turn. You must get the message to get the process started.
Bump back up, have tried to see if I am turning the key all the way and I am certain there is no more play in the mechanism. Any one else with an idea on what's going on?
Do you get HATCH OPEN message and graphic with the motor running? Thinking there must be some sensor and wiring involved with the lock cylinder and latch mechanism...
If all else fails, check with a local auto locksmith. I was quoted $75 to pair a fob with my Acadia - bought a Dorman fob and one time programmer instead.
Bummer. I guess it is possible that the key lock switch has failed electrically. I'm not sure what trim panels need to be removed to get to the switch.
The lock cylinder appears to be part of the latch assembly:

Dirt can build up in that key lock and might prevent turning all the way. Spray some WD 40 into the lock and see if it frees up some more.
The FSM includes the procedures mentioned in the OM plus has two other procedures that might work. One of them uses the SPS Programming and will require a GM MDI 2 scan tool or Equivalent plus a subscription to the GM TIS online site.
Just for the hell of it before going off the deep end place the Key Fob that lets you start the car into the steering column slot and then try turning the key 5 times. I had a similar problem on my C6 and had to go to the dealer to get the key fobs programmed properly, After waiting a couple of hours the Service Writer came to me and said they were having problems getting the car to respond so offered me a ride home. It took them two days before they could get the job done.
