I was just helping a friend with a battery change in the back of his C7 and saw the size of the Red positive battery cable (the one coming off the 350 Amp fuse) that heads up toward the front of the car. Holy Crap that thing is massive! Underneath that black braided covering, the Red cable is something like 5/8" in diameter. Does anyone know what the gauge / size is of that cable? Maybe its just a Red colored protective jacketing, sleeving or tubing over the actual battery cable itself that makes it look so large. Just curious, TIA.
Also I wonder if the engineers selected a copper cad aluminum stranding to save weight (but requires a larger gauge to handle the same amperage load) vs traditional solid copper stranding. Their are using the aluminum frame for the ground path back to the battery negative.
