yeah appears to be a pretty labor intensive job, from watching videos on that subject its amazing how fast very experienced shops can get it done. I can see it being that price especially since a tune is usually 1k or around that off the back.
if I were to do it myself cant image how long it would take me.
Depending on what exactly you are doing or installing it is roughly a 20+ hour job. Your area will dictate the labor rate but figure $2500 minimum labor.
Mine was installed with a host of other mods but the invoice from a reputable, nationally known shop quotes I paid $5500 for that portion including parts, fluids etc.. This was in in early 2021 so I don’t know if the current market conditions will affect that.
Book says 25 hours. I did cam, headers, ported heads, e85 flex fuel and my tuner quoted me 25 hours plus the tune. That was for all labor associated. He did not pull the engine and swap timing chains as my car has very low miles.

typically theres more done than just a cam install. dod/afm delete vvt delete, lifters, pushrods ,valley tray, valve springs all get changed when doing a cam.
I ended up doing way more than a cam but I was under the impression that the motor needs to come out for a cam swap. I watch some shop builds on Youtube and seems like it is possible to do it in the car? I am going to do an AFM delete on my Cadillac Escalade and I am pretty sure I can do that in the car but I have zero self-control so if I start doing a cam. It will end up with heads, intake, cam, exhaust etc. I will probably be cheaper in the long run to take it out of my hands and have someone do it. Not to hijack this thread.

What part of the country are you in?
you do a cam swap with the motor in. cam just barely clears the radiator when pulled.
Superdrol,
Where are you located? Had collapsed DOD lifter in my 2017 Grand Sport and have to replace lifters and want to upgrade some valve springs and trunnions. located in San Diego, CA.

I have seen rates as low as 3200 for BTR cam/DOD delete in a C7. Parts and Labor. Heard of them way higher as well. but that was a real price at a shop with dyno tune back in 2018. I know places cheaper now, but also know most big shops are higher.
