Default Header size needed...

Looking to get some long tube headers for my car. I see Kooks has two sizes available 1-7/8 & 2". Anyone know which one to buy?

1 7/8 unless you’re going for big power.

Is ARH still the best for fit and performance? I had a couple of other brands in a C4 and F-body that works but they fit kike crap. Rattled and were a PITA to install.

All the personal experience I’ve had has been with ARH. I’ve heard Kooks are an easier fit but ARH yields the most gains. I’ve seen people mention LG and spoke highly on them. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those three but I’d steer clear of Texas Speed headers imo.

Would like to get what ever mods it takes to make around 700-750 RWH. Also may consider the LG Motorsports Headers.

1 7/8 are what you want then.

If this is going to be a NA build 1.875" tubes are pushing the limit. If it's a blower/turbo build, go with 2".

I can see you're new here (welcome aboard), but filling out some basic info in your profile, will help people help you better. Without knowing you have a Z06, it brought different answers to your question.

1 7/8 is fine unless you're going past 750-800rwhp. Beyond that, they start to become a restriction on power.

Well ordered some Kooks long tube headers and catted mid pipes tonight. Kooks says 10-12 week lead time. We will see how true that is.

I have 2” on my ZR1 pushing 1100hp. Without port work on the SC and heads and a more aggressive cam and fueling, 1 7/8” will be more than enough.

Will the 2" affect performance negatively?

You left out the most important part of that quote. It should be "Some is good, more is better, and too much is just right".

Most of us operate under 5000rpm running around the street. If that is you, then yes as peak hp/Tq will move up the rpm band and the lack of a bit of back pressure will limit scavenging of exhaust gases. That said, track days and the ability to make future flow improvements are preserved, plus I don’t think you will really feel the difference.

Depends on how big your wallet is for this sort of spending. It takes cubic dollars to go fast. If you don't care, you might as well talk to a reputable builder and have them build out the level you want.
