I just added Z51 shocks to my base '14 7spd and the ride is very good.. Much more controled than before. If you want to try my old comfort shocks you can have them. Just pay shipping. They have 16k miles on them. Also your tires can effect your ride.

I installed a set of OEM Z51 shocks on my base '14 Stingray last weekend. I got them new from an eBay vendor. Ride quality is noticeably improved (does NOT have that 'floaty' feel any longer). The shocks don't address body roll while turning, so will be installing Hotchkis sway bars (effectively Z51 bars, but a bit stiffer) this weekend or next (they are sitting in the garage as we speak).
Define 'improved' ! Better compliance, or flatter cornering? In my neck of the woods, 'improvements' means soaking up the expansion cracks, but others might need something more performance oriented.
If you've got some miles (50k+ ?) on your old shocks, replacing them with new ones will likely be an improvment.
It's hard to compare "old Stingray" and "new Z51" shocks.
I saw an Ohlins set for $4k, I wonder if they'd be as good on the C7 as they've been on my MC's ?
I have 30K miles on my 2015 Z51 coupe with Michelin Pilot Super Sport run flat tires with only 5K miles. I just got back from a 1800 road trip through five central states. On bumpy or patch repaired roads, the ride became very rough and noisy.

The Z51 shocks will stop the 'floatiness' over expansion joints, but won't soak them up. That would be more for the softer FE1 shocks (think Cadillac or mid '90s Caprice shock compliance here). But the Z51 shocks are not harsh or rough. For that you would go more towards the Z06 shocks.
The shocks won't help with flatter cornering (less body roll). For that, you'll need to install a sway bar on the rear (base doesn't have one at all, but it does have the attachment points ready for you to supply a bar) and possibly a stiffer bar up front.
I have a set of front and rear shocks off my 2015 Z51 also have the stock sway bar end links. Will sell all for 1,200.00 plus shipping. I live in Fort Walton Beach Florida. PM me if interested
