Has anybody determined a common reason why the dash leather becomes delaminated? Parked in the sun,,,,,,, to much leather conditioner,,,,,,, very hot climates,,,,, certain build vin numbers or factories? I know the 2014 can have the issue.
Whether one has an issue is random. Some parked in the sun have an issue, others do not; garaged always some yes, others no; interior treatment, can be yes, can be no; etc.
There is nothing you can do to prevent the issue given that there is no established correlation between how the car is kept and the problem.
As already noted, it is a quality control issue which either bites you or not.
Mine delaminated after one year and the car sat in a climate controlled garage. Replaced under warranty. 6+ years later the new one looks great. And the car sat in the hot sun nearly every day at work.
I have a 2014 with 30k miles. It has a small amount of delamination but not growing or growing very slowly. It's garage kept and the leather is only cleaned with a lint free cloth and water. It spends little time in the sun. Unfortunately, I'm sure the delam spot will grow larger overtime.
The issue is completely random. I did a poll a whIle back and found owners everywhere from Canada to Florida with dash failures. My ‘15 3LT started to pull away from the defrost vent about 4 years after production. I’ve always taken great care of my car and kept it in a garage.
Recently I had my dealer do a dashboard replacement because I couldn’t stand looking at it any longer.
An "Advanced search" across the C7 Forums will disclose about a gazillion such threads here. Simple truth... GM screwed-da-pooch with the materials and manufacturing process. Think otherwise... some C8s are having the same issue. Just another reason to buy a base St'ray.
Thought it is more common, if not isolated to, 3LT's / 3LZ's. No problems on my '19 2LZ, but wife's Prem. Lux. XT6 Caddie dash bubbled. Cadillac replaced it under warranty.
