Default Help with transmission part identification

Hi.

As a part of some disassembly works, we have removed the transmission and I noticed this part
Can someone please explain if this stick/lever should be at a specific position? To be honest, the mechanic moved it and it made a switch sound inside the transmission, so I doubt now if I need to find out in which pos it has to be, I guess it's kind of gear/parking position lever

Thank you for any answer

It's called the transmission range selector lever. As long as the cable that connects to it is not adjusted, the lever will be in the correct position when you reinstall the transmission.

Thanks , could you please explain "is not adjusted" you mean if we moved the lever by mistake while the cable was not connected to it, it's OK?
If yes, OK.
If we did move it by mistake while the cable was connected to it, what is the procedure, and what could be wrong? (the gears will be messed? i mean "P" position want be P position, etc. ?)

The cable is adjustable. Let's try it this way ...
Put the shift lever in the N position. The shift lever is the thing with the **** inside the car. Put the transmission range selector lever in the N position. That's the middle position as in P-R-N-D-M. If the cable connects to the lever, then you are done. If they are misaligned, pull out the lock on the cable, adjust the cable length, make the connection, and close the lock.

Thanks! We will try this way once we assemble everything back in the car and I will be back with a result/questions
