My2014 Z51 dry sump appears ta be over filled even with 9.7 qt. 3/4 in. above top hash mark. Changed filter and the space before throttle body
had a good shot glass of oil and hose had oil in it. last oil chg. was by dealer. I drained both plugs let it sit till no oil dripping out.& changed filter. Added 9.7 qt. and even after 100 mile drive it's at least 1/2 inch above top hash 8 minutes after shut down. Oil appears clean with no old oil mixed in. Just sucked out enough oil from tank to fill 1 qt. bottle 9 qts. left in. Now appears ta be middle of hash marks but will need ta drive her some miles to be sure. Will check it as soon as the snow stops and I can bring oil up to 170 deg. What da ya think? Why would it show over full? My 8th. Vette but first dry sump.
Put in 9 qt the next time and adjust from there. Some of us add just enough to put the level midway between the add and full marks.
Some dealers like to just dump in all 10 qt - been a problem since dry sump came out. Had a talk with dealer service manager when they overfilled my 2014...

That's exactly what I did today. after warm up drive to 170deg. shows right on full mark. Guess it likes 9 qt. let her cool down and was bout 1/2 under low hash. Repeated and same right at full w/ 9 qts.
Yep, think my dealer did same just dumped in 10 qts. I found at least shot glass of oil in the sq. area of air cleaner when I changed air cleaner, and hose leading to it was all wet. T-body looked ok not all oiled up. Gonna watch it now w/9qts.
I always do my own maint. but w/extended warranty I thought I should have them do it. WEELLL? maybe not. Plus my cost 50 bucks their price $145.00
I always had similar issues with my 14 like this. Anything over 9 quarts would be too much and I would have oil in the catch can. My 19 ZR1 9.5 is the magic number.
I know it has nothing to do with the year, but something about the 14 was just strange for me.
I wouldn't worry about it that much. It sounds like it falls in the OM guidelines for an overfill. The dry sump can handle a half-quart overfill which is a total of 10.3 quarts of oil. OM says full is 9.8 quarts and the dipstick is marked to show full if you have 9.8 quarts in the engine. Very early 2014s said to use 10.3 quarts to be full and the dipstick was marked at that level. Here is the half-quart overfill direction from the 2019 OM (this only applies to engines with the dry sump):
This is what my dipstick looks like when there are 10.3 quarts in the engine:
Once I get back from a track event I don't bother to draw the extra oil out of the system.

Yes, that is what I learned to do after "activating the High Performance undercarriage corrosion control system"!!!
dry sump has a line going from the tank to the intake for venting. if you fill it with 10 pts or at the full mark your going to get some oil sucked into the t/b since its full to the top.
