QUESTION: Has your shift cable ever broken? Those little plastic end connectors are not the most rugged in the world, and one of them broke on my C6 at a stoplight. I like to slide into neutral at a light, but only having the C7 for 3 months, wonder if I should avoid that procedure, or if the C7 mechanism is more robust...???

The plastic end shift cable grommets were notorious on the C6 A4 and A6 autos for splitting in two becoming brittle with age and exposure to the enclosed tunnel heat underneath the shifter module. I expected the same for the C7 auto shifter cables but really have not seen members reporting such failures. Perhaps GM specified a better grade of plastic for the grommets??
Apparently, the shifter cable broke on my c7 yesterday at a car show. It was in park but it showed in reverse. Couldn't get my car started but several kind corvette guys at the car show I just had arrived at, jacked up my car and man named Scott crawled under my car and did something to it. He said he had fixed it where I could drive it home in manual but use the parking brake to park and not to turn the engine off until I got it home. I drove it home in manual using the paddle shifters on my car to shift gears. Wonder what this repair will cost me but I’m thankful these guys were able to get my car drivable so I wasn’t stranded 2 hours from home.

The cable is 50 to 60 several years ago for the C6. Figure on 2 or 3 hours of shop labor.
