Performance Difference in Wheel Diameter Z51 to Base
Front: 18-inch x 8.5-inch (Stingray) - Rear: 19-inch x 10-inch (Stingray)
Front: 19-inch x 8.5-inch (with Z51) - Rear: 20-inch x 10-inch (with Z51)
The top wheels are the base stingray sizes, the bottom set are Z51. The Z51 looks to increase the wheel diameter only, the width stays the same. Are there performance benefits with a larger diameter only? Seems like it would make sense on paper to go with the stingray base sizing to reduce unsprung weight and have better tire options (probably more comfortable too).
I have Z51 and I'm wondering why I'd want to keep the standard 19x20 sizing.
The OD of the tires is very similar 18/19 vs 19/20. So there isn't any perceptible change in gear ratio. My 19 base car came w/ the 19/20 sizes and I have swapped to 18/19. There is definitely a better ride w/ the smaller wheels since the tire section is taller. IMHO all this huge wheels, thin tires has a basis in race cars because, for a given tire OD, you can fit larger rotors/brakes. For a street car I think it is stupid.
19's came stock with 19/20. I would have preferred 20's or 19's all around actually. Z51 has 1" bigger front rotors which may have been a reason why they went to 19". And since GM wanted to keep the staggered, they moved 20's to the rear.
