c7 torque tube rebuild
What is a ballpark price to just rebuild the the the assembly using the existing housing ?
I appreciate any input that someone may have.

I'll hazard you might save $500-$750 by rebuilding it vs a new one.
In the case of my 2019 ....$1,500. Of course to that you need to add tax and I'll wager shipping is a couple hundred as well. https://www.gatewaypartsonline.com/o...Y4LWdhcw%3D%3D
You don't mention if your 2014 is an auto or manual transmission. If manual, the above part should fit but you'll want to verify. If it's an auto, you'll need a different torque tube. Even though Gateway is a GMC dealer, I've bought a bunch of Corvette parts from them and they've been great to deal with.
As far as what's involved, this thread should help.... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-solution.html
$8,100....Even if they have 20 hours of labor....10 each way....that says they're charging you $4k or more for parts.
Parts quote(approx.) $ 4150.00 Labor $ 4200.00 Including, trans. and brake system flush.
R & R torque tube and replace rear main seal as a p/m item.

too much for me,
i rebuilt it myself.
Parts were only $651.97 for the upgraded polyurethane bushings. https://www.tickperformance.com/poly...-2009-19-12mm/
But if you want stock OEM replacement bushings is only 449.97. https://www.tickperformance.com/tick...-corvette-z06/
both prices include the three required bearings.
the only part you cannot get right now is the bearing slinger. I have only been able to find it in a kit with the bearings and snap rings. I used a torch to heat mine up, and it cam off without damage, so i re-used the bearing slinger.
Drew Z06 has a great write up on the forum here, and it is what i used as my guide.

It is invasive work, and requires a pretty good tool box, and a way to get it 24 - 30 inches off the ground. I used quick Jacks TL7, purchased from costco, but i can only find them on ebay now.

My car also has long pipe headers, and they had to be removed to get access to the torque tube bolts, so that took 8 additional hours round trip, but you wont need to do that is you have stock exhaust.
My rear cradle was "seized" on one of the guide pins, and took 6 hours to get to budge.
my total labor time was 40 hours, and i think Drew said it should total somewhere around 24. With the two additional items above, i think it was pretty much on par.
Good luck,
Failed torque tube, and this was the "good" side
The shop guy that checks you in says he could work on the hours as a quick check was $200/ hour, did the math, and was surprised at that.
Usually it's a markup of 2 on their salary and having a hard time thinking they pay their mechanics $100/hour. Any good idea what Chevy mechanics make. I looked and the max was $35/hour that I found. Thanks
PS: Bought it 6/2016 about 66,600,plus miles and only two minor issues that were corrected under warranty the first year. The center console cushion was replaced as it looked liked one of those dogs with the rumpled skin and not an issue with that going forward and one wire in the engine compartment and not an issue since. Chevy has done all oil changes and maintenance reviews. I just replaced my front and rear rotors and put carbon ceramic pads on.
The dealer told me what they do for the torque tube and I also looked it up and at 71 there is no why I would ever attempt that plus I would have to buy one of those small lift jacks for the garage and they are about $1,500.
They'd probably find me dead under the transmission and tube.

I was running errands and when I turn off the engine I heard a rattle and I thought it was the muffler or the exhaust pipes so I went into the Chevy dealership here in Arizona that I go to.
He heard the rattle and then he wanted to get in the car. And get his foot on the throttle and it was a low rev noise and then once it went higher It went away and at that point he said it's the torque tube.
His head mechanic was there and called him over and said listen to this and tell me what you think.
Did not give him any heads up or anything.
The mechanic listened, he laid on the floor listened to it and he said torque tube, so basically, Monday (9/30/24) they're going to tear into it and basically that's where it starts. It's a low rumble in low low revolutions or low revs and disappears. I left the car at the dealership as I didn't want to take a chance and blow the engine. So slow revs continues rattle and goes away at higher revs. I hope this helps. Note, did not check all spelling.
