Default Water Leak After Windshield Replacement - Potential Solution

So I had the infamous water leak after the windshield was replaced on my Vette. After pressure washing the car I noticed a leak on the driver and passengers side. My local glass shop resealed the windshield (purchasing dealer was 4hrs away so they paid for it) stating it wasn't sealed properly; however, I still had a leak on the driver side. I checked one of the common problems, the little xmas tree clips that are usually missed when the weatherstrip is put back, but that wasn't my issue. I was going to take it back and have the glass shop look at it but after looking I think I found the solution to my problem.

Right at the 90 degree bend where the A pillar meets the fender the weatherstripping isn't fully seated. I tried seating it better and washed the car. I had much less come in than previous. It looks like there is a foam tape applied to that area from the factory but that's ruined as soon as the weatherstripping is removed. I took some rope caulk and applied to the area and washed the car. No more leak! I ordered some butyl sealant tape to use as a permanent solution. It's only one wash so I'm not 100% positive it fixed the issue but I'll keep an eye on it and post if my issue comes back.

If others are having issues you might want to inspect/give it a try. Hopefully it will save you a few headaches.

That would explain all the rockets and lab coats.

So I got butyl rubber and put it in between the A pillar and weatherstripping. Looks much better and can't really tell. I could have gone a little thinner I think but we'll see how this does. I'll keep everyone posted.

Are you just putting it on the area in the pic or running it up all the way? Thanks

I believe that Permatex (?) makes a flowable silicon sealant for windshields for just this type of issue.

Never tried it but if it works, Bingo!
