I purchase 10 quarts of 0-40 mobil One oil from Wal-Mart. It says is is Europe spec oil. It was the only oil I could find with 0-40 weight. Is it a big deal to be Europe spec? I assumed the weights of the oil is the major thing to be concerned about. This will be the 1st oil change since I bought the car. It has 13K miles, 2015 Z51. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and input.
You should only use oil with the Dexos 1 logo in your 2015. Your owner's manual recommends Mobil 1 5W-30 street / 15W-50 track. The newer 0-40 ESP (old label) or Supercar (new label) can also be used. The Euro spec is supposed to be harder on the cats.
You can download the owner's manual from the link in C7 General | Sticky threads.
Make sure you know how to check oil on the Z51 dry sump. Note that you will need to remove 2 oil drain plugs. (All in the manual). Add 9 qt, then warm up the engine and check level.
The correct oil filter is AC Delco PF64, not UPF64.
Thank you for your input. Since the book recommends Mobile 5W-30 that would be ok? Does it need to say Dexros on the bottle?? If it doesn’t I shouldn’t use it?? SOrry to be ignorant. I live in Southwest Ks and the closest GM dealer is 65 miles away. I would rather get the proper oil and have my local car repair shop do the oil change. The owner is BMW certified and I will make sure he is aware of drain plugs and the checking the oil procedure. Also, any suggestions about WHERE to find this oil. As mentioned earlier I bought the wrong oil at Wal-Mart but I didn’t see anything with super car listed or Dexros. Thank you for your input.
Mobil 1 5w-30 Dexos1 is just fine for your car. The 0W-40 has only been on the market since around 2018 and was introduced so that switching oil for track use is not required.
Mobil 1 5W-30 Dexos 1 is on the shelf at Walmart and almost anywhere - you just have to sift through all of the different flavors available. 0W-40 Dexos1 (ESP / Supercar) is at some auto parts stores - Autozone had a deal in the spring.
<edit> - Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 is actually Dexos R which is "better " than Dexos 1 and is also acceptable, but not required. See link for more than you want to know about Dexos certifications:
