I have an issue where the radiator fan runs constantly. It runs when the car is on our off and continues to run for something like 30 minutes after I shut the car off.
The car is not overheating. The opposite really. It runs so cool that my redline doesn't go above 4500. No warning lights on the dash. My corvette shop plugged their OBD reader into it and got no codes, but it stopped doing it for a day.
Something is telling the fan to run, even though it doesn't need to be running. Any ideas on my issue? Fan relay?
First thing is your Corvette shop should be using a factory level or aftermarket scan tool and not a “code reader”…a skewed IAT or ECT sensor may cause the fan to turn on without any DTC’s set…take the car back to them and check both sensors in Global OBD2 instead of “enhanced” or the “factory side” and compare the sensor values for both…tell them in Global OBD2 the sensor values can’t be substituted and the scan tool will be reading what the ECM is seeing…the ECM may be using some different temps and we cause these “substituted values”…if your Corvette shop doesn’t know this they should not be diagnosing Corvettes….have them watch the video if they never heard of this !!
My issue was the cooling fan system sensed a fault because the thermostat was lazy to close and the systems didn't detect the normal operating engine temperature reaching within certain minutes expected from cold start.
The only way to get the fan to turn off was to disconnect the battery.
I changed the thermostat and the problem disappeared.
