Hopefully someone can help, 2016 Z06, M7, no start. Drove the car a couple weeks ago no issues. Went to start it yesterday and it would not start. Battery is good, code reader says link error. I tried plugging the SCT 4 tuner to return it to stock and the display says it cannot communicate. Tried reading vehicle info on the SCT and it displays vin blank and ecu not found.
also tells me to push the clutch in to start. Clutch is pushed in when this message appears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Don’t know what you mean by “link error” ??…do you mean a communication error ??…a communication issue can cause a no start…there are some things you can check with a DVOM on the CAN bus but I don’t know if you have one or know how to use it…you can’t communicate with the ECM so you may have to check power and grounds to that module…to be honest if it is a communication issue diagnosing these are way over the heads of dealerships and general repair shops.
Yes, most likely I’m assuming….best to use a factory or equivalent aftermarket scan tool to see what modules you can and can’t talk too…best bet is find an auto electric shop that uses a labscope which is helpful.
The ECM is on the High Speed Bus and as you can see there are 2 modules upstream of the ECM…if you are able try removing the connectors on the Power Steering and Electronic Brake Control modules and give them a shot of electrical contact cleaner and reinstall…if the 2 data lines have a poor connection you won’t be able to communicate with the ECM and the car won’t start…most of these issues I see are on modules on the outside of the car that are exposed to the elements…video so you can see what’s involved.
What happens when you put it into accessory mode? Should be everything normal except the car not running.
What works? Can you move the seats?
Does the info screen go up/down when you push the button?
Interior lights come on?
What's the battery voltage when attempting to crank the car?
Is the little black ground wire that goes to the negative battery terminal attached and not broken?
Was the fuse block on the positive side of the battery properly installed?
Was the fuse block on the positive side of the battery properly seated?
Have you loosened everything up and tighten it again to be sure?
In accessory mode can you hear the parking brake operate if you set it/release it? Does the fob lock/unlock the doors? Did you pop the lid on the fuse box and look for anything suspect? Did you try to start it by inserting the fob into the steering column?
If it's telling you to push in the clutch then usually the battery is bad or installed incorrectly or the clutch position sensor is bad/has moved...unless a rodent paid a visit to chow on some wires or you have headers and a wire bundle got torched, it's usually not anything unusual.
Everything works except no crank. The only thing I noticed is it doesn’t beep when I leave the fob in the car. I do not have headers and I checked for rodents no signs.
Do you hear a click under the hood? Can someone monitor the starter relay in the front fuse box? Or swap relays if there is another identical one? Might at least tell you if the car wants to start.
(the small black wire attached to the negative battery cable is a sensing wire used for charging, not a ground)
Gentlemen, this is NOT a battery issue !!…OP can’t communicate with the engine computer so this is the critical piece of information…if he can communicate you turn down the other fork in the road and go towards battery, starter relay, battery cables and any other inputs in the starting system.

The Z06 is going to CSP in West Chester tomorrow. Unfortunately it’s being towed. I was scheduled to have some performance work done there anyway so off it goes. The shop assured me they would be able to figure it out. I will update the post when it’s fixed just in case anyone else has this issue.
