I've read about the cylinder deactivation on my new to me '14. I the car is mostly stock, but I've also read about ways to deactivate it.
How can I tell? I don't see any icons on the dash, feel anything, etc.
Switch the DIC to any INFO display (Tour, Sport, or Track) and scroll down. There is one fuel economy display that shows instantaneous mpg and V4 or V8.
Buy an M7 C7 and don't put it in ECO drive mode.
Use a Ranger module with an A8 C7.
Disable it in the ECU.
Perform a mechanical DOD delete. (Typically a non DOD camshaft, non DOD lifters, plug DOD tower ports, and turn off in ECU tune.)

Choose one of the four.
#1 is going to be the hardest if he has already bought it like the OP or if you hate manuals.
#2 has the potential of the deity of choice warning you to get rid of the dongle by making you kick it out. Also have to make sure it runs without the stupid thing before emissions.
#3 costs more but you can also change shifting properties and increase the throttle tip in negating the need to buy something to fool the ECM into opening the throttle more than programmed by GM
#4 definitely costs more but now it makes it a bit more complicated to sell.
