Default P228c fault code

Hello,

Has anyone experience P228C fault code?

With my scanner, I found able to find voltage anomaly. Rail 1 and Rail 2 voltage does not match.
Any know what voltage should be?
Also, I also found out that there is only 1 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (driveside).
Where is the 2nd sensor ?
At this point, I dont even know what voltage is for what sensor.

Fuel Rail 1 Sensor 1 : 4.5 MPa (range 0-24 )
Fuel Rail 1 Sensor 1 : 1.22 V (range 0-5)
Fuel Rail 2 Sensor 2 : 4.1 MPa (range 0-24)
Fuel Rail 2 Sensor 2 : 3.82 V (range 0-5)

First off what year is the car ??...helps us if you can enter all info about your car in your profile....usually a good scan tool will show you a voltage and pressure data PID...the pressure one normally shows desired and actual...desired is the expected pressure and actual is what the scan tool is seeing from the ECM...your sensor has 2 signal circuits 1 and 2 and is a 4 wire sensor..the ECM provides a 5 volt reference and the 5 volts is pulled to ground and sent out on the signal wire depending on the fuel pressure...below is from Service Information...may be a bad sensor or faulty high pressure fuel pump....unfortunately we can't diagnose it for you...if it is a sensor circuit issue a DVOM will be needed...this is a "performance" trouble code and not a "circuit" trouble code which tells me it's possibly a pump issue but wiring should still be checked...I checked your previous posts and you had a P0306 misfire...was that ever resolved ???...it says a restricted injector can cause a P228C…if you have no diagnostic or electrical knowledge I highly recommend you seek out a diagnostic shop and not a dealership or general repair shop…they only change parts !!

P228C

* The fuel rail pressure is greater than 3.00 MPa (435 psi) below the desired fuel rail pressure.

* The above condition exists for 750 out of 938 counts, approximately 30 seconds at idle or 7 seconds at 2,700 RPM.

Diagnostic Aids

* A leak in the high pressure fuel system may set a DTC.

* A faulty valve, plunger, or solenoid in the high pressure fuel pump may set a DTC. High pressure fuel pump damage will most likely be undetectable upon visual inspection.

* A restricted fuel feed pipe between the high pressure fuel pump and the fuel rail pressure sensor may set a DTC.

* Any problem with the camshaft may set fuel pressure DTCs due to the location and design of the high pressure fuel pump. If camshaft position control DTCs are current or in history, a cam control issue may be the root cause.

* A leaking or restricted fuel injector may set the DTC.

* As little as 2 ohms on either circuit of the high pressure fuel pump solenoid will cause a DTC to set. Test the circuits of the high pressure fuel pump solenoid for a high resistance if you suspect a condition.

DTC P0089, P228C, or P228D

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle See: Vehicle > Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview > Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis See: Vehicle > Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview > Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.

* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions See: Vehicle > Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview > Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptors

DTC P0089
- Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance

DTC P228C
- Fuel Pressure Regulator Control Performance - Low Pressure

DTC P228D
- Fuel Pressure Regulator Control Performance - High Pressure

Circuit/System Description

The high fuel pressure necessary for direct injection is supplied by the high pressure fuel pump. The high pressure fuel pump is mounted on the rear of the engine under the intake manifold and is driven by a three-lobe cam on the camshaft. This high pressure fuel pump also regulates the fuel pressure using an actuator in the form of an internal solenoid-controlled valve. In order to keep the engine running efficiently under all operating conditions, the engine control module (ECM) requests pressure ranging from 2 to 15 MPa (290 to 2,176 psi), depending on engine speed and load. Output drivers in the ECM provide the high pressure fuel pump control circuit with a 12 V pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal, which regulates fuel pressure by opening and closing the control valve at specific times during pump strokes. This effectively regulates the portion of each pump stroke that is delivered to the fuel rail. The high pressure fuel pump is normally closed and will not deliver an increase in fuel pressure when the control solenoid is NOT powered. In the event of pump control failure, the high pressure system is protected by a relief valve in the pump that prevents the pressure from exceeding 21.5 MPa (3,118 psi).

The fuel rail pressure sensor is a dual analog sensor that provides the feedback necessary to the ECM to control the high pressure fuel pump and the fuel injectors. The sensor is diagnosed separately from the fuel pressure control system.

The ECM monitors the fuel rail pressure sensor and the high pressure fuel pump solenoid to determine if the commanded and actual pressures are within a predetermined range during engine cranking and at all times while the engine is running. The ECM also monitors the high pressure fuel pump solenoid to make sure it is operating within expected limits.

Hi,

So checked my Fuel Pressure Sensor and I notice a nick on the wire harness.
I inspected the wires and it look fine, so I just sealed it up with electrical tap. I put everything back and started the car. The car started up instantly. I was so happy. The voltage of the sensor it went back to normal.
Then I turn off the car and started the car again. Now I have no pressure in both fuel rails. So I dived back in and notice the there is fuel in my intake manifold.
Do you think its something with the vacuum ? I used new gaskets.
