Default Shocks

I was told today that the front shocks need to be replaced with less than 16k miles on the car. Is this normal and do I replace them with OEM shocks?
Thanks!

Who told you? I assume the dealer. Can you visually check then yourself? Maybe the oil leaked out of them.

You can see the base of the shocks and check for oil.

I had two of four leaking last year, did all four in my garage in a few hours. Only had 20k miles total but the car was 9 years old
as it's a 2015 Z06
it's the age that got them not the mileage

If your mag ride shock leak, its time to put new ones on, the leak will only get wares. The oil will get on your brake pads & rotors & the lower control arm.

Your profile doesn't tell us anything about your car. Sometimes the screen name helps, and sometimes not. Please fill in some info.
If your car has the Mag Side shocks, they have been very prone to leakage. At about 2 yrs/20k miles, our 2017 Z51 had all four Mag Ride shocks replaced under warranty.
Now at 7 years/62k miles, the replacements are doing fine. Attached is a document explaining how to judge condition.
