Hello,
If anyone can help me or has experienced a similar issue, I would appreciate any insight very much!!
I took my 2014 C7 out for a spin today for the first time since storing it for winter. When I put it away last fall, I had the oil changed and filled the tank, had it detailed and washed, connected the battery tender and put the cover over it.
When I started it up today, two strange things happened. First, the oil life dropped from 96% to 53%. I reset the oil life because I know for sure that it was just changed last fall and was only driven from the Corvette shop back to my house and then stored. Second, the fuel gauge is reading at a quarter of a tank! While I am absolutely certain I filled it before storing it, I drove it to the gas station just to be sure although nothing was leaking on the floor, to put more gas in it. I got to $1.96 and the gas pump clicked off because it’s full.
When I got home, I disconnected the battery for 3.5 hours and reconnected it to see if this might help “reset” but to no avail!
Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what do you recommend?
Thank you so much!
Paula
I believe the oil change thing will zero out in 12 months after it is reset since GM says to change it after 12 months. What is 100%/12? Basically every month of storage, it loses 8.33% of the life whether you use it or not. Did you store it for about 5 months?
Putting a bottle of Techron and drive the gas out of it would most likely resolve your issue. Worth a shot for a cheap and easy fix. Techron does wonders for the fuel sending unit inside the tank. I use a bottle every couple of months on my 2014 Z51. No fuel gauge or level issues.

You might have a sender issue.
Yes! I stored it for exactly 5 months. That makes complete sense. Thank you!!

I put star tron enzyme fuel injector treatment in yesterday when this happened. Do you think it would be safe to add Techron in as well or should I just wait and see what happens with the star tron first?

Im not familiar with that product unfortunately. id say probably run thru your current tank and see if any improvements are noticeable. I’ve used Techron in all my corvettes from C5 and up, it has always helped me with keeping the fuel level indicator functioning as designed. I keep several bottles on the shelf for routine maintenance.

Previous generations of Corvette were supposed to get an oil change at least once per year regardless of miles driven, but you had to remember that by yourself.
The C7 does the "time" calculation automatically- your oil life remaining will drop by about 8.3% each month even if the car is never started. Of course other things (like miles driven, oil temperature, etc) will decrease oil life more rapidly, but the time element is always counting down.

Excellent to know!! Thank you very much for sharing!!!
My fuel gage went to empty and stayed there. I tried Techron to unstick the float. But no help. I noticed that engine check light was on in the dash so I bought an OBDII code device for $20 and checked the code. Code showed failure of float in gas tank. When I cleared the code, using the OBDII, the fuel gage started working again. Wow! Maybe it is computer related issue rather than a real stuck float. Anyway, good for now.

My guess is that it found a float issue and locked the thing. When you reset it, it clears the error and let's it go on it's merry way UNTIL it hits the same error again. If it happens again, I'd be prepared to change the float.
