Default Engine replacement?

A few months ago I got my torque tube repaired and 3 days after I got it it started making the same noise as before when it needed the repair, and then it shut down on me, towed it to the closest dealership and they replaced the starter but that didn’t help even though it still needed a new one.
I tow it to the repair shop and they say they installed the starter wrong because as soon as you unscrew the starter the noise stops. It was also missing a bolt so they rethreaded it, but still made noise and shut off after 5 mins of driving. Towed it back to Chevy bc were friendly there and they found metal in the oil and can’t say for sure until they take apart the engine but think I need new engine due to my thrust bearings. Everything I have looked up comes back to improper placement from drive shaft. I told them they need to fix my car, but are charging me of course. Saying the same thing it’s the trust bearings. Now I am thinking about sueing? They claim they did research on and nothing came up about it being the drive shaft but I call bs because everything I look up is drive shaft improper placement. Why should I pay for someone else’s fault when it’s 10k I don’t have. It only makes sense it’d be a fairly easy case to win knowing the car broke down not after driving it 50miles after the repair was done. What do you guys think?
additionally after they installed it the car wouldn’t start…. That’s like even more reason to believe it was faulty placement he had to call a key guy and claims the car got uncharged from the key for the 2 months it was just sitting , also claimed it was my battery. Also my fuse popped in my battery at the same time it broke down… help! Any knowledgeable advice I don’t already know would be great

I'm no lawyer, and you'll probably need one.

When installing the TT on A8's doesn't the service manual indicate what the shaft clearance should be?

Maybe tow it to a dealer and have them measure the TT - thrust bearing clearance ? You'll need to pay for this out of pocket but then it'll be documented whether it's correct or not, and that would be proof that the first shop didn't do it right and they owe you an engine.

Sorry but the repair shop that replaced the TT did not set the clearance correctly. Idiots,

The thrust bearing was destroyed locking up the engine, thus burning up the starter and then popping the 350 amp fuse. Common scenario of events.

You're going to need to replace the engine, starter and 350 amp fuse, just to name a few items. Rebuilding will cost you just as much and the list goes on.

Sounds like its crate engine time with a complete clean out or replacement of all oil lines and reservoirs at the minimum,

Since the shop is denying all fault, to recover damages its lawyer time and don't let this shop 'try' to repair the damage. I guarantee that it will probably be even worse.

We're talking about $15k to repair the damage, proceed with caution,

Note: If I ever needed to replace a TT I would insist that I be present when the set the clearance.

Hate to hear about the engine problems with your car. Does sound like the shop screwed up big time and should be responsible for the cost of repair. Speak with a lawyer - I would not go back to that shop that’s for sure.

Sorry for your troubles. Don’t let the stealership touch the car, call a lawyer that handles this stuff. Ask him what the next move is. If you’re really going to pay for a replacement, why spend 20,000 at the dealership when you can spend 20,000 at Lingenfelter or LMR. Just sayin…
