C7 manual gear 2014.
Sometimes when I shift from first gear to second, the gear handle doesn't want to move directly into the second gear slot position.
I have to move the gear handle first back in neutral before it works.
Any advise what causes this and how to clear up this issue?
isn't that just the typical tight 1-2 shift?
have you ever changed your trans fluid?
Mine got noticeably better with new fluid.
What miles you got on there?
48000KM. Will change the transmission fluid but don't think that's the issue here cause the gear lever is just locked and unable to move into second gear.

Sounds like skip-shift. Does it only happen when you lug it or also when you hold 1st gear longer?
^^^ In addition to above post, do you see the skip shift message on the cluster? Says something like "Skip shift 1-4". I rarely see it on mine because I always rev past it. It only displays for a second or two.

it happens sometimes below 3000 rpm as i can recall
Can't see the message, even if it was there I would mind. What I do mind is that my shift lever is stuck after gear one so will try to shift at higher RPM see if that helps.
Thanks.

but doesn't the center dash area pop up the "shift from 1 to 4 for increased fuel economy"
it literally says those words in the center dash area if that is the root of your issue. He's asking if you are seeing that message pop up. It's a known thing with these cars.
Accelerate really slowly in 1st and the message will stay up the longest, but watch that area.
Is that happening or not?
In mine it pops up but the 1st owner of the car had it tuned out so the message is there but it doesn't actually lock out 2nd gear.
if it is totally factory it will physically prevent you from shifting to 2nd
We know it sounds ridiculous but we can thank EPA regs that make no sense.

Yes it does show but only at higher rpm and I normally shift at lower rpm from 1 to 2 so why second is locked out at lower rpm?
I don’t understand that logic.

Thanks for your feedback.
Believe me we're all with you on the logic. It's an idiotic feature driven by pointless regulation that achieves nothing, but we're stuck with it none the less.
You have to either just skip a gear or get it tuned out in the ECU or get whatever device people are saying tunes it out also.
I'm not sure if you can just skp to 3rd or you have to actually go to fourth like the message says because mine was tuned out before I bought the car.
I believe it should "not" display if you accelerate really hard while in 1st because it's basically meant to be for when you are just putting along in traffic with super low throttle input.
That would be a good test to confirm you don't have a trans issue you simply have the annoying ECU program we all got stuck with.
