So I'm struggling to find a fix for a squeaking/rubbing noise from my drivers door whenever I open it. I've lubed up all the hinges and it still makes the noise. I think its' coming from the center hinge/guide but I can't really see into the door to see where I might need to lube it. I don't want to go squirting a bunch of crap in there either. With the door fully extended I can just barely move it and it makes a noise. It sounds like a plastic/rubber rubbing/squeaking noise. Has anyone experienced this and know how to fix it?
So the part I think is making noise is the Front Door Check Assembly. I checked the bolts and they were all tight. I put a thin film of oil on the piece that slides in and out and the noise is still there.
Try a thin rub of a clear silicone grease. SilGlide or similar. I haven't had a Corvette assembly in my hands but some others I used to work on had a roller running on the arm. The roller would lock up and turn into a slider. So greasing the arm would allow it to slide better and get rid of the noise.
Just had the same problem. White lithium spray worked for a while. Then it got much worse to where it sounded like popping every time I opened it. Stealership wanted 300 to fix the noise (wrongly diagnosed mind you) and told me they needed it for 3 days, yeah right. Where the door hinge connects to the car and swivels around was noticeably not level and sagging, causing the door to have a lot more friction when closing making the popping noise. I was very careful, using towels and boards to displace pressure, I put a jack under the door and lifted up very slightly just to bring it up a little while I adjusted that piece. I stuck a wrench at the bottom of the little swivel part and hit it with a rubber hammer upwards until it was level. The bolt holding this little swivel assembly the frame of the car was very loose ( I think it was an 11 or 12 mm bolt) It is hidden behind the little foam insert. moved the foam insert out of the way as much as I could without tearing it and really tightened that bolt. fixed the problem immediately, no noise and it is level like it should be now.
