Hi all. Since I’m now auto crossing my C7, Z06, it was suggested to me to get a tow hook. I figured a factory one would be the best, so my car was at the shop today. I asked them to put one on. I figured there’d be some kind of installation to it. However, they left it on the passenger seat. When I asked for it to be installed, they just screwed it into the front. They didn’t even screw it all the way down. They said it wasn’t necessary. Somehow that doesn’t seem right.
my question is, should I tighten it down until I feel some resistance?
thank you in advance.

Depends if you're going to leave it in or if you're going to crash the car and then attempt to hold up an event while you dig the tow hook out of the storage compartment.
If you plan to drive on the street with it in, tighten the thing. No one wants to run over it on the road if it vibrates out. An auto-x course is so short that it's probably fine hand tight.....just check it after every run. Worst case you run over it, damage something on your car when the tow hook departs, and a course worker needs to pick it up.
Put a big screwdriver between the sides of the tow hook ring and tighten it. It's a tow hook, not a beauty piece. Takes......10 seconds?....and now you don't have to check after every run.
The GM tow hook looks like it could lift the Titanic, but the receiver it screws into seems to be made of aluminum. I wouldn't want to over-tighten it.
GM says the hook assembly is meant to pull the car from a flat level surface onto a trailer, not to pull it out of mud/sand/etc.
When I installed mine as a test, both front and rear didn't screw in or out easily. I would be comfortable leaving it in place and look at it after each run to see if it has turned any, re-tighten occasionally.
