Default Broken Valve Spring

Bad day today, was cruising to a stop light and all the sudden the car just started studdering and shaking, lost all power and died, started it back up and limped it into a parking lot, towed it home found a broken valve spring, what would be the smart way to go about this, what are the chances the valve is bent, I can still move it up and down and appears fine, but want to borescope it. Would it be smart to replace all the valve springs and run it? Thank you

First thing I would do is to put a borescope to see the condition of the piston and valve that is affected. If those are bad, game over. If they are good, depending on how good you feel, I would pull another spring and see if they all have the same range of motion. Can it spin freely?

If I escaped unscathed. I would buy a set of springs and replace that one and run the car for a bit. If all seems well, change all the springs.

thank you for the quick reply, as soon as I can I will borescope it and see what I can see and go from there, hoping atleast the piston is in good shape

Can I ask how many miles on the car/engine? Also, what cylinder is the failure on? Not that it will help you but this topic is searched quite often and might help the next person. Fingers crossed for your piston

Don't ya love these GM "Customer Care" messages...maybe GM should rather spend some more money and time at process quality monitoring at their plants and their suppliers plants.....

A few pictures of a 2013 with the big LS7 that I had diagnosed a few weeks ago...no damage except for the spring and roller rocker...#8 intake valve.

I hope it turns out ok for you. My 14 M7 did the same in the number 7 cylinder. Spring snapped, valve dropped, piston obliterated, hole through cylinder wall. New/used engine install followed.

These were the supposedly upgraded blue springs? I thought the ones that were prone to failure were yellow and they were still being used on 2015s.
