2016,z51,3k miles. I have full power to everything car just won’t crank. New battery, good fuses and relays, new fob battery, just won’t crank. Scan tool states ECU not communicating and won’t clear code. Any Ideas what to check next?
Thanks
Sounds like a possible communication issue…you can have either an issue with the electrical part of the starting system or a no communication one…either can cause a no start…if you have some electrical testing skills we may be able to help and if not find an auto electrical specialist in your area…are you using a scan tool or a “code reader” ??…if using a factory level or equivalent aftermarket scan tool you can check what other modules you can’t communicate with…do you have a DMM and a 12 volt test light ??
The car never cranked with the new. battery. It did crank with the old battery, idled for 10 min and died. Tried to restart and wouldn’t crank. That’s when I replaced the battery, and still won’t crank.
Do us all a favor and recheck the battery install per the link I gave you. Lots of threads have been due to self inflicted problems when replacing batteries. Also, sometimes a new battery needs charged or is just bad off the shelf.
If the battery install is good, then pursue the comm issue.
I don’t know what scan tool you are using and if will communicate with all of the other modules on the car but it is beyond the scope of this Forum to teach you how to use it…if the ECM is the only module you can’t communicate with there are a few fuses that power the ECM that can be checked…fuse 5 in the rear body fusebox is powered by the battery and fuses 4 and 52 in the underhood are the ignition feeds and are checked with ignition on (service mode)…G100 near the starter is the ECM ground…normally one would access the ECM and check powers and grounds at the module…if more modules are “offline” this may be a CAN bus issue…are you referring to the KR27 Starter Relay as the start/run relay ??
If you want to check to see if the battery is powering some of the underhood fuses you can use the wiring diagram below to see if all those 16 fuses are being powered by the battery coming off the 350 amp fuse.
Same as you, we want your Corvette running at peak performance. We think obtaining an official diagnosis from one of our GM-certified dealerships would be the next best step towards a resolution. If you'd like support connecting with one, you can reach us via email at socialmedia@gm.com.
Check the main ground. The black negative cable from the battery. It terminates to ground under the back carpet about 1 foot forward and 1 foot to the left of the battery. This ground is often overlooked.
