My 2014 Z51 is showing a message: rear axle system off. Took it to the dealership and they reprogrammed the cpu. I go to pick up my vehicle, and before leaving the lot the same message came up. No I gotta wait to talk to the manager and I'm a little pissed that they have my money. (No, it's not covered under warranty). Not sure what to do next. Anyone else encountered this?
Well it’s a “comeback” for them if the message reappeared…I’d tell them you’re not paying for the module programming and I’d find another shop…unfortunately dealerships only replace parts…they were only guessing as far as the programming.
Very easy to change. If you don't know when it was changed, it's time to change it. Just don't use the fancy monkey juice. Easy to get the correct GM fluid, with modifier.

Rear Axle Off refers to the Electronic Limited Slip Differential. This is the system with the electronics and hydraulics that continuously adjust the differential clutch engagement. The hydraulic system is not typically serviced. The gear lube that CAN be replaced has nothing to do with the ELSD function.
So - changing the differential gear lube may be a good idea in general, but is not related to this issue.
So, I got my vehicle. The dealership informed me that the fluid was low and contaminated. Been driving it for 6 days now and no issues thus far. On my 2nd visit, I mentioned the possibility of low fluid, and the service manager shot it down because of the codes that came up.
As of today, I'm pleased, but cautious, with the results.
