Hi guys. I'm new to the Corvette platform and I'm in the middle of replacing the torque tube and decided to replace the flex plate with the Z06 version while I'm in here. I can't seem to figure out how to remove this top bolt on the bell housing. It is almost flush with the plastic wiring housing (blue arrow) so I can't even get a wrench in there. I loosened the front cradle bolts (and removed shocks and upper control arm bolts) and I still don't have enough clearance let alone have enough room to back out the bolt completely. Any tips on getting the engine to tilt or lower more? This is for a 2015 Z51 8 speed AT.
Only thing I can think off is maybe disconnect the front sway bar and see if it lowers more? I also see in the C6 threads, people "levelled" off the engine with a jack but I don't see anywhere I can use this jack. I'm officially stuck so any suggestions is appreciated! Thanks!
Note this picture was taken at a low angle so it looks like there's room, but there really isn't
The plastic holds wiring and is connected to each cylinder head. Since you have the engine lowered, you may be able to reach those bolts and loosen them enough so the plastic tray will move a hair. Don't remove the bolts...they're a nightmare to get back in when the engine is in the car.
having just done this impossible task I can help some. lower the subframe bolts theres 4 of them. disconnect the sway bar bolts . its easiest to lower 1 subframe bolt until it comes out. reinstall it about 6-8 threads and repeat this for the remaining 3 bolts. also helps to use a floor jack under the subframe to help support the weight. that particular bolt is reached from the top back of the motor. get ready to cuss bleed and swear for days. if you can feel the plastic harness bolts remove them and leave them out. the harness wont move and makes life easier. theres just barely enough room to get an arm in there and I used an offset 13 mm closed end wrench. reinstall most of those bolts will be German torque. gutentight since theres no way to get a torque wrench and socket in there. same for the flex plate nuts. you have to rotate the motor loosen about 2-3 nuts then rotate again. use a flywheel locking tool or pry bar in the starter hole to hold the flywheel when applying tightening pressure again a ratcheting wrench or offset wrench works best. 15mm
