Default Pothole Messed Up Tire

Hit a pretty big pothole with my C7 corvette. This was my front passenger tire. Will take it to a shop to get looked at but wondering on what the chances are that my rim is still okay? Also if I would need to replace both front tires or just the damaged one? I replaced all 4 tires in 2022, haven’t tracked them and put on maybe 10k miles on them.

If it were mine, I would replace both front tires. The manufacture date was 2021 so they are quickly approaching the five year mark anyhow. As far as the wheel goes....when the tire has been dismounted, thoroughly inspect it for cracks or damage to the barrel. If nothing obvious shows, have just the wheel mounted on the balancer and spin it. Look for run out or any kind of motion out of the ordinary. If nothing is noted, have the tire mounted and balanced. Then go drive it and don't worry about it.

NOT good. With 15,000 might as well replace both. And like he said, have them check the rim. Check out Continental Contact tires.

I would replace both, and do a thorough inspection of that rim with the tire off to look for cracks..

Did you document this. Pics of the hole, you have the damage, location etc. you said they were checking it out see if any other damage. Take all that into the jurisdiction having authority over roads and repair. In my experience it will be covered. They may hee and haw about it and take a while.

In our area the pothole has to have been reported, and then they have 48hrs to fix it. That ordinance is pretty much useless for us.

Sorry I was mistaken it’s closer to 10,000 miles since it was installed. Would the recommendation still be to replace both front tires? When I get It towed to the shop I’ll have them check the rims for sure.

also I do not have AAA but I believe I have roadside assistance with Geico. Anyone have experience with Geicos towing and also anyone know if I could get AAA now and have it towed after a few days?

Guaranteed that rim is bent but it can be straightened. Take it to a shop that specifically does wheel repair. Usually, You will want to separate the rim from the tire before bringing to the shop. It's common practice to replace tires in pairs, front or rear.

Yes, at least both fronts - in your case it's a time over mileage decision

No info in your profile, but that looks like a Z51 (or 2018-2019 standard, same thing) wheel. They are strong, apparently the only C7 factory wheels that are forged.
We have ruined two tires like yours, two separate incidents. In both cases the tire still held air, in one case we probably drove for several hundred miles before noticing the damage.
In one case the wheel was very slightly bent and the tire shop said they could balance it out, so they did and we drove it over a thousand miles before getting home. We didn't notice any vibration but had it straightened when we got home.
In the other case, the shop said there was no damage to the wheel.
Both wheels have now gone something over 10k miles since the incident and no problems.
Both of our incidents happened with the Michelin AS runflats, I'm not sure if they are more prone to this kind of damage or just the roads are worse during winter.

Tire wear on a C7 is very dependent on alignment and driving style, fronts tend to wear first for most people. You might replace both fronts now, but then the rears have less tread for driving on wet roads. Your decision, best of luck to you!

thank you for the insight as well as to everyone else that replied! Took it to a shop and luckily they said the rim isn’t bent but recommended replacing both tires. Got quoted $880 to replace both tires (continental extremecontact dws06 plus) with alignment and was wondering if that’s a normal price? Also what’s the recommendation both time wise and mileage wise for C7 corvette all season tires?

We use the Michelin A/S runflats for cold weather or road trips when we don't know what we will encounter.
I've autocrossed on them a couple of times and they do quite well compared to the PSS, because the tires don't get heated up a lot in autocross. At the Ron Fellows school the instructor told me they had evaluated the A/S on their course, "a great touring tire but grip can deteriorate when they get hot running multiple fast laps." So my experience agrees.

The Michelin A/S are just a few dollars cheaper than the PSS, but the A/S last longer (for me, 30k vs 20k miles). If I didn't do autocross/track time in summer, I'd stay with the A/S runflats forever. I now stay with the 6 year time interval for all tires on all our cars.
