Default Stock exhaust material

Stock exhaust material around the primary cats, is it made of steel or stainless steel?

I got to weld a O2 bung for the wideband upstream of the first cat and all the bungs I can find are made of stainless steel

Put a magnet on the section of pipe where you want to attach the bung. If it sticks it is steel, if does not stick then it is stainless or some other non ferrous metal..

Not sure if the Corvette exhaust is 401 SS which is magnetic. Martensitic stainless steels which include 401 & 410 are magnetic.

Indeed they are, in my experience you can tell the difference by the amount of attraction the magnet exhibits, the 401 and 410 normally have less attraction than regular mild steel, it is a rough and ready test at best.

The pipe around the primary cats seem to be mild steel (strong magnetism)

But it's almost impossible to weld a bung upstream of the cat at least for a sunday welder like me, there's too much uneven bend

I'll just have my wideband in place of the secondary O2 for now
