Default Service rear sclu

2015 Z51 convertible. 4735 miles. Totally babied.

Backing into garage today and message “service rear axle” appears.

It’s on the lift and expecting 6”+ of snow. Called Chevy dealer and said I can bring it in in the spring.
Any one have similar and what was required?

Thanks,

Rwp

Have you changed the oil or checked the level?
If you are under there, might as well change it.

A better idea is to ask a buddy with a professional level scan tool to come over and read the DTCs for the entire car.

Any kind of hiccup or error (like a misfire) will throw a service rear axle code.
Often completely unrelated to the rear axle.

No I haven’t checked the level guess I assumed if they were changing the engine they’d check the rear, guess not.

I’ll check it.

thanks

As many will surely chime in soon, how old is the battery? The C7 is very battery power hungry. A dying battery will set all kinds of false codes. So I guess come spring a new battery might be the place to start. I am guessing that since the car is a 2015 it does not have the original battery, but with such low miles, battery life will be short. I would start with the simplest thing first & if you change your own battery, make sure the little black wire on the negative cable is hooked up, this one broken wire on a C7 will make the computers in the car send all kinds of crazy messages. Good luck come spring & drive the car more, too nice a car not to be driven.

Scan tool, read DTCs. The electronics in this car can be unhappy for many reasons.

This will happen when the small black ground wire is broken or intermittent. It’s quite brittle. Did you disconnect the battery recently? The wire usually fails at the connector. Easy to cut off a few inches and add a new wire end. You can try that for negligible cost.
