Tips: Redtiger Parking Modes Explained & Hardwire Kit Setup
We are Redtiger, a leading brand in the dashcam industry, trusted by customers worldwide, and one of the top-selling dashcam brands on Amazon in North America.
As we get closer to Christmas, property crime can increase.
Whether your car is parked in a home garage or a shopping mall lot, incidents can sometimes happen while you're away — from theft and hit-and-run collisions to occasional intentional damage. A dashcam with parking monitor mode can help provide extra protection for your car and give you some added peace of mind.
What is Parking Mode?
Parking mode allows a dashcam to continue recording even when the car engine is turned off. Most of our dashcams, such as the 4K 3-Channel F17 Elite, and 4K 2-Channel ViewClear 70 come with two types of parking mode:
The dashcam automatically starts recording and saves video when a collision or impact is detected, with three adjustable sensitivity levels. It does not need to stay fully on while the car is parked, which minimizes unnecessary recording and saves power.
The dashcam records continuously at a lower frame rate, capturing long periods of activity and compressing them into shorter videos. This helps save storage space while still documenting events over time.
To enable the parking mode, the dashcam needs to be powered via the hardwire kit connected to the vehicle’s fuse box. This allows the dashcam to operate even when the vehicle is turned off.It also offers multiple safety protections, including overcurrent, short circuit, reverse polarity, and overheating protection.
Note: The kit is not suitable for trucks with a voltage higher than 24V.
Items Needed for Hardwire Kit Installation:- Hardwire Kit: Includes wires, fuses, and connectors.
- Fuse Tap: Used to connect the hardwire kit to the vehicle's fuse box.
- Circuit Tester: Helps identify the correct power and ground fuses in the vehicle.
- Zip Ties: Used to organize and secure the wires.
How to Locate the Fuse Box
First, open and remove the glove box, as the fuse box is usually located beneath the dashboard or inside the glove box.
You can also refer to your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm the exact location.
Once you've located it, open the fuse box cover.
A circuit tester can be used to identify the constant power fuse (always powered) and the ACC fuse (powered when the key is in ACC or ON).
Connect the red wire (ACC) from the hardwire kit to the ACC fuse using a fuse tap.
Connect the yellow wire (B+) from the hardwire kit to the constant power fuse using another fuse tap.
Secure the black wire (ground) to a metal part of the vehicle chassis using a screw or bolt.
