Default E85 systems and gauge recommendations

I’m doing a whole bolt on mods of CAI, headers, throttle body and ported intake.

i decided to jump in on the e85 train and ordered the flex fuel set up from Lethal Garage, primarily as when installed you can’t tell by looking in the engine bay that the car has e85 capability’s and just looks cleaner in my opinion. Question I have do others have this system and how do you like it or dislike it? Second question is with that system what gauge would you recommend that is also clean and neat. I have seen the vent ones which I think is pretty nice looking final product. I just don’t know all that would need to be done to get it installed and working. This is my first corvette and really my first time doing any kind of modifications. I defer to this group for more knowledge and experiance with this.

any suggestions/ideas/feedback is so appreciated.

Shane

I have the P3 vent gauge. I really like it. Was a few hours and a lot to take apart. There are a few youtube videos on the install. You can do it.

So I just got off the phone with the guys at Rpm In Garner NC.

He told me that with the stock fuel system and no forced induction that the car will be tuned at. Arguing levels of ethanol content and the car will automatically adjust to the percentage content it’s reading. So no gauge needed. He said that if I were to supercharge it and do other motor upgrades like a cam and heads then I would probably want to keep it at a certain percentage or lower, but with the bolt on’s of AFE, MSD porter intake, and 103 mm throttle body and headers only the percentage fluctuation in ethanol the tune will adjust without any need for me to know what it is. Really no risk of damaging engine.

Any guesses on RWHP with these mods? I have my thoughts that it will be 470-475 RWHP on e85. But I’m just guessing and using AI to help research. You all are smarter than me and I suspect AI too 😂

I would still do the P3 gauge to have a readout. Never know when you get shitty ethanol somewhere and that probe will save you. Unless you break out a test kit every time you fill up but I dont have the patience for that. Im guessing you won't have to blend and can run full E?

Yes I have to bring it to them with less than a quarter tank and they add e 85 in 2 gallon increments. Tune and then add 2 more gallon and tune, they are putting in about 10 gallons to do the entire tuning process. They use their e85 that has been tested to be true e85. For 10 gallons it’s 144 dollars for the fuel and the tune work went from 950 to 1150 because of how much time they have to have it on the dyno and tuners time. Sounds like a lot more work tuning for e85, but I’m hoping that the change will produce some good RWHP gains. The guys at RPM have a great reputation here in NC so I’m trusting that it’s going to come out really good. I went with the Lethal Garage sensor kit after watching video of install. The sensor and everything tucks behind the engine, so after install you can’t even tell it has e85 capabilities. Wanted to keep the engine compartment as cluster free as possible. I don’t know if Lethal changed their design from the video I watched or not. I’m hoping not.

I have the Lethal Garage unit and I love it. You really can't tell it's in there. Install wasn't too bad either. Should I have a gauge to monitor E content? Probably, but I don't. I'm just running headers, E85, and tune so nothing crazy.

I also installed the lethal garage flex kit on my ‘17 GrandSport. I wasn’t a fan of stuffing everything behind the engine like their YouTube video show, floating around back there.

I tried to do it that way and It seemed to put a lot of strain where it connects to the hard line by the firewall. I wasn’t comfortable doing it seeing how it’s a fuel line.

I ended up buying a nice little aluminum bracket off eBay for $20 and attached it to the coil cover. I’m still not a fan of how the stock fuel line is but it should be fine for now. Seems to have less stress on it now. It looks like their website picture of a C7.

Also getting to the ECU to pin it was a project. It’s in an awkward spot to remove especially with the lower side skirt. And the harness they provide is just barely long enough.

Im just waiting for the weather to clear so I can get it tuned March timeframe. (ARH Longtubes, catted X, MSD intake, Tony Mamo TB, and E85. Hoping for 475hp.

No need to worry about the E content as your setup will be able to handle full E85. If you wanted to see what the content is, the cheapest and easiest wat is to use the Fuel It dongle and app on your phone. I used it before and worked great.

Do you have a link to this bracket you used? Looks like a perfect fit for the sensor.

The bracket worked perfect. It was made for the GM sensor. The picture in the ad doesn’t show it, but it also came with two screws and two nuts to mount it as well. I just added two bigger washers to the back of the coil cover to help distribute the load. See link:

I don't like the DSX kit. Looks nice with bent metal tubing, but it just dangles out there in the engine bay unsupported. Not a big fan of it. I actually would like to 100% hide the sensor if I could.

My shop likes DSX stuff also and I'm sure it's good stuff. It just didn't sit well with me how they it is out in the open like that. From a visual standpoint I like things a little more tidy and less likely to be bumped/hit if working on the engine bay.
