Shopping for rear diff oil and came across the ac delco brand 75-90 and it's $36 a quart.
I've found some mobile 1 brand that's way cheaper that has the limited slip additive in it just like the ac delco brand. My question is, will the mobile 1 work?
Formulation: Mobil 1 is known for its top-tier, high-performance synthetic base oils and additive package for extreme protection. ACDelco (DEXRON LS) is designed to meet specific GM standards, offering excellent performance within those parameters.
Personally, I'd go with the Dexron. Everyone who has used it for the noisy diff clutch packs seems to have been satisfied. You will probably only do this once, and you'll only need about 3 bottles, so there isn't a big savings.
FWIW, I did a preemptive change around 4k miles using the Mobil 1 option, following the suggestion of many on this forum. I've had no issues, though I'm at only about 9k miles on that fluid.
I've not heard of issues or fluid sensitivity on c7s that seemed common on c6s.
What I really want to see. All of the engine failures, automatic/manual trans issues, rear end issues. What fluids were being used. To many people use the fancy monkey juice and then wonder why they start to have issues. I have not heard of issues using up to date, OEM fluids. I think the least issues, were with the rear end, not a common failure.
I used the recommended gm oil. Picked it up on Amazon. All of the posts that I've read on here on the subject were correct. It was almost a quart low and noisy. Drained the rear end (nasty), filled it to the proper level with the right GM sh*t and wow, it shut right up!!!
I used Mobil 1 75W-90 LS once early on in my 2014 non-Z51 with standard clutch pack LSD. I had a concerning grind when backing out of my driveway while doing my sharp left and not under power (when the car was cold) that I would describe as a clutch plate issue. It would vanish after it was warmed up. I didn't like that and switched to Motul Gear 300 LS and the sound has never returned. I would stick with the OEM fill if not wanting to go the boutique fluids route. I prefer gear oils with ester base stocks, so I stick with Motul or Redline mostly. YMMV because others have used the Mobil 1 with no issues. I 100% did have issues with it...
